Ullswater Choir

Ullswater Choir

The Ullswater Choir is a mixed voice choir of around 20 members of all ages and abilities and has existed in Penrith since 1976. It provides opportunities for the people of Penrith and the surrounding areas, to come together to learn and perform a range of classical and modern choral music in a fun and informal way. Our members, some of whom have been with the choir since its beginning, come from various parts of the Eden district and further afield.

New members are always welcome, no audition is required to join the choir and no highly developed musical skills are needed. Singing in the choir is a wonderful opportunity to have voice training, learn some of the gems of the choral repertoire, take part in quality performances and make new friends. Singing also helps your breathing, reduces your stress levels and improves your health. Singers are known to enjoy a long and healthy old age!

Apart from the weeks when there are joint rehearsals with the other rural choirs, the Ullswater Choir meets on Tuesday evenings from 7.15 until 9.15 at Christ Church, Penrith, where it’s musical director and conductor is Jackie Wright.

During the season, from September to March we study the works to be performed by Cumbria Rural Choirs at its March concert in Carlisle, as well as singing less demanding choral pieces for fun.
